✷ Aftercare ✷
✷ the total healing process for your new tattoo is about two weeks. During this healing time, please refrain from using anything else on your skin besides the suggested soap and moisturizer.
✷ Suggested products: Dial Gold antibacterial soap (everyone has it, you should too!), Lubriderm (or your favorite unscented moisturizer).
*Other products made specifically for healing tattoos are also welcome, These include but are not limited to Vitalitree, Hustlebutter, Mad Rabbit, etc.
*If you choose to take your bandage off prior to the suggested 3-day minimum and your tattoo is still too fresh for lotion, a very thin layer of Aquaphor or a healing ointment when needed is a good option until you can transition to a lotion.
✷ Derm shield/second-skin bandage: this bandage can technically stay on up to one week (1/2 of your total healing time). I typically suggest a happy medium of 3-5 days. As long as the tattoo remains completely covered and there are no tears or leaks, you are welcome to keep bandage on for up to a week. When you are ready to remove it, run it under hot water in the shower to help loosen the adhesive. Pull the bandage sideways from the edges rather than peeling straight off the skin to encourage a more gentle removal. This is when you begin your aftercare of washing and moisturizing.
*Do not be alarmed if your tattoo begins to “blur” under the bandage. This is normal, as the body is still exuding excess ink, blood and plasma. This is helpful for the tattoo healing. Make sure it does not leak or tear! If it does, promptly remove the bandage to avoid possible infection.
✷ DO: wash and moisturize when needed. I typically suggest 2x-3x a day depending on how exposed the tattoo is to outside elements, sweat/grime, etc. (use your better sense of judgement! often, less is more)
✷ DON’T: swim/submerge in water, excessive sun exposure, scratching/picking during healing, use fragrant products.
Once the two week healing period is complete, you may use sunscreen and other products to your preference. Feel free to reach out to me via email or phone number if you have any questions regarding your new tattoo! First touch ups are always free within one year of receiving the tattoo. After a year, a small fee covering materials may be applied.
